Week 12

Image
This week I decided to identify the similarities and differences between the opening of two fantasy films: 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' and 'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief'.     Similarities Differences Fade in from black. Night setting in a desolate place where a people are often found at day-sense of enigma and secrecy. Low key lighting Minor key music Camera Pan Appearance of a character in an unconventional way- immediately engages the audience. Low angles of the ‘magical beings’. Transformations Dialogue that starts to talk about a main event in the film (shot reverse shot). (H.P)-Sound motif vs (P.J) minor key music. (P.J) Includes establishing shots  (P.J) includes an unexpected bystander for comedic relief as we see the shock on his face. (H.P) Only set in one location which is much more simple (P.J) The locations were set in more busy and light locations Weather

Week 10

This week as a class, in order to spend a lesson away from the constant time on screens, we did a retrieval practice of key terms in which we were given 10 minutes to create a mind map based off of 4 different aspects of media: language, representation, audience and first by ourselves (in black pen) and then we further added onto it with class discussions (blue pen).
