Week 9

This week, along side carrying out more genre research, I decided to explore one of my favorite film genres, sci-fi/adventure by watching 5 films in that genre, looking at the story line and identifying and exploring the different themes and images:     Movie Description Rating Themes and Images Ready player one The protagonist, Wade Watts, is playing a worldwide virtual reality game where the players are attempting to find an Easter egg that the creator left behind in order for the finder to inherit the game. Week 8

Image
This week I completed week two of the future learn 'An Introduction to screenplay writing' course from UEA. I also started to look at how to create a pitch for my idea based on what I would like to do for my final opening scene as well as looking at how to write a treatment.

The Hunger Games: Opening Sequence Analysis

The movie opens with the non-diegetic sound of major key music that is quite soothing. The first title we see is the distributor of the film which is Lionsgate, an Entertainment company known for movies including 'The Imitation Game' and 'La La Land'. This immediately gives the audience a clue to the quality of movies as this company is known for producing good and very engaging movies. We then see the logo of the production group, 'Color Force' which is known to have produced the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' series and 'Crazy Rich Asians' which are both highly praised as very engaging films which elevated the interest in the audience as their psychological need for brand identity is met.  We then see a series of white text dissolve in and out of the black screen. The slow transitions align with the calming music but I personally believe that this contrasts to what the writing itself is saying. The text is a brief description of the main event in the f...

This week, along side completing the opening sequence analysis, I completed week one of the future learn 'An Introduction to screenplay writing' course from UEA which included this link (https://gointothestory.blcklst.com/ ) that I explored and found very interesting and read a couple different famous screenplays.

Week 6

Image
This week I began researching screenplay writing as it is an area that I am interested in. I also looked into analysing the openings of  3 different fantasy or sci-fi/adventure films as that is the genre that I would like to use for my final project.

The Encounter-Peer Assessment

Week 5

Image
This week I edited my clips for The Encounter although I was not able to download premiere pro onto my IPad and so I had to use iMovie instead. I then evaluated the scene and got some peer-feedback from my classmates and identified how to improve for next time.

The Encounter-Evaluation

Image
To film The Encounter, I followed the 180-degree rule by ensuring that Caitlin always looks to the right and Bella looks towards the left. I also made sure that the camera was on the left of Bella when she was walking in and on her right side whilst she was walking back out to ensure that the audience would not get confused.  I used continuity editing such as shot-reverse shot to establish conversation between the two characters from a long angle in order to capture the emotion of frustration within their body language. I also used match-on-action editing in both the first three scenes and the last three scenes whilst Bella was walking towards and away from the pool setting to increase the pace of the scene to add a sense of quickly approaching ‘danger’. Peer feedback: What’s good- “I really liked the establishing shot at the start since it really helped me understand the setting and the high key lighting, even though it inherently doesn’t make me think of the drama genre, I lik...
